Since its founding in 1988, the Steans Institute has served as an artist development program for exceptional talent, providing transformative coaching, master classes, and performance opportunities to more than 1,700 gifted musicians. Our alumni have gone on to influential careers as performers, leaders, and educators, forming a vibrant, innovative community that spans the globe.

The Steans Institute is committed to supporting alumni long after their summers at Ravinia. Key alumni initiatives include the Alumni Catalyst Fund, which supports one alumni-led project each season, and the Steans Institute Instrument Bank, which loans world-class instruments to alumni of Ravinia’s Piano and Strings Program.
