La Original Banda el Limón

La Original Banda el Limón is one of the most storied groups in contemporary Mexican banda, founded by clarinetist Salvador Lizárraga Sánchez in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. Throughout their history, the group has balanced old and new forms more than others; although their sound and arrangements are nothing if not traditional, they were one of the first banda artists to amplify and synthesize their sound, as well as to feature vocalists. The 17-piece band has featured many iconic singers during its history, including Julio Preciado, Jorge Cordero, José Ángel Ledezma “El Coyote,” Nico Flores, Luis Antonio López (“El Mimoso”), Chuy and Antonio Lizárraga, Israel Valdez, and Lorenzo Méndez. Since the ’90s, the group has delivered numerous iconic performances in North America, from a 1997 show at the Los Angeles Coliseum to a pair of 2012 highlights—Reliant Stadium in Houston and Estadio Azteca in Mexico City—to shows in the Zócalo (Constitution Square) at the heart of Mexico City in 2015 and 2019. La Original Banda el Limón has won two Latin Grammy Awards (and two further nominations) as well as honors from ASCAP, BMI, and Billboard as a group at the top of their genre.
