About the Performance
The great ones endure—and both Gladys Knight and Brian McKnight stand among them.
Very few singers over the last fifty years can match the unassailable artistry of Gladys Knight. Known as “The Empress of Soul,” the seven-time GRAMMY Award winner has enjoyed #1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B, and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television, and live performance. Since her debut album Gladys Knight & the Pips—recorded when she was just 16—Knight has recorded more than 38 albums, including four solo albums: Good Woman (1991); Just for You (1994); the inspirational Many Different Roads (1999); and At Last (2001).
Leading hits like “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye),” and the #1 smash “Midnight Train to Georgia,” Knight’s voice is “one of the more remarkable instruments of the rock, soul and R&B eras,” according to critic David Marsh, “a perfect blend of grace and grit.” Perhaps Mariah Carey puts it best: “Gladys is a singer's singer. She's as real as it gets.”
Joining Knight is another artist who needs no introduction: Brian McKnight. Since the 1992 release of his self-titled first album, McKnight has gained international and domestic recognition, earning himself a spot in contemporary music history. He has released 19 albums to date over the past twenty-five years, selling over 30 million albums worldwide. With 16 Grammy Award nominations and numerous chart-topping songs, McKnight has established himself as a musical legacy. He has been the recipient of American Music Awards, Soul Train Awards, NAACP Image and Blockbuster Awards, and Billboard Songwriter of The Year.
Together, these two legends promise an unforgettable evening of timeless hits and the kind of soul-stirring performances that only the great ones can deliver.
