RSMI on Tour

Steans On Tour: Players

"The young musicians who played my Second String Quartet so beautifully were extraordinary both in technical accomplishment and sensitive, musical intelligence."
    —Bernard Rands, composer

Musicians from Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute is a touring chamber ensemble series whose members are selected from among the most promising string players, pianists, and singers that have attended Ravinia’s summer conservatory. Tour repertoire for artists from the RSMI Program for Piano and Strings varies, but always includes three or four works for the ensemble. Tours featuring artists from the RSMI Program for Singers have included large ensemble performances with soloists as well as small chamber ensembles and solo performances.

The tours are designed to bring the musical richness of Ravinia to a wider audience, presenting both formal concerts as well as educational outreach and programming for schools and various community organizations. Musicians from both programs have appeared at such prestigious venues as Boston’s Isabella Gardner Museum, the Library of Congress, the Tucson Desert Song Festival, Miami’s Friends of Chamber Music series, and New York’s Town Hall.

Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute has also been a pioneer in multiple cultural exchange programs in Havana, Cuba, sending artists from the RSMI Programs for Piano and Strings and Singers to the Festival de Música de Cámara and the Corhabana choral music festival.
