THE FUTURE OF JAZZ
PARTICIPANTS IN THE PROGRAM FOR JAZZ
AT RAVINIA’S STEANS INSTITUTE FOR YOUNG ARTISTS

The Program for Jazz at Ravinia’s Steans Institute for Young Artists exists to promote the art of small ensemble improvisation. Although part of the program focuses on performing a well-rehearsed concert, most of the days are spent rehearsing with a variety of individuals, learning how to perform well with changing personnel. Participation in the Program for Jazz is by invitation only. The names of the participants in this summer’s program and their biographies can be found in the Steans Institute book that is being distributed this evening.

As with the Steans Institute’s classical programs, the strength of the jazz program lies in its distinguished faculty. Headed by Dr. David Baker of Indiana University, the faculty includes Nathan Davis, James Moody and Rufus Reid. Additional information on them can also be found in the Steans Institute book.
