Christoph Eschenbach will be unable to conduct the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia for the July 29 Gala Benefit Evening due to illness. James Conlon will instead lead the CSO with no further changes to the repertoire.
The program features the legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman performing his “Cinema Serenade,” a collection of film score compositions and arrangements by John Williams—including the theme from Schindler’s List, which Perlman played on the original film soundtrack—along with Dvořák’s Carnival Overture and Symphony No. 8. Pavilion and lawn tickets for both concerts are available at Ravinia.org.
Ravinia offers its deepest appreciation to Maestro Conlon and wishes a quick recovery to Maestro Eschenbach.
Thank you for your understanding and your support of Ravinia and its REACH*TEACH*PLAY education programs.
One of the classical world’s most sought-after artists, the legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman, will headline Ravinia’s Gala.
Due to continued physical therapy prompted by inflammation in his left arm, the originally scheduled soloist, pianist Lang Lang, has been forced to cancel his concert appearances through the end of the summer. He extends his apologies and looks forward to making music again soon. Ravinia wishes him well.
