Elgar:   Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op. 85, (with film)
Beethoven:   Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67

Program Notes

The perfect concert for new listeners as Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 may be the definitive work of classical music and certainly features the most famous four notes in the entire world.

Daniel Barenboim hadn't recorded the Elgar Cello Concerto, which he made famous with Jacqueline du Pré, after her death. However, the talent of Weilerstein called him back to the studio for a stunning new recording of the classic work. Experience the artistry that he could not ignore.

Below are food items of the most immediate need for the “dangerously low” supplies at the pantry. If you are coming to Ravinia for this show, please consider bringing an item or two from this list to help Moraine Township keep underserved children in the area fed this summer.

Concert Information

"The Fantasy on a Theme by Thomas Tallis is, in my opinion, one of the greatest of all works for string orchestra, and for me evokes the lofty spaciousness of English cathedrals. After the haunting opening, the music moves toward a climax of great power before returning to a mood of great serenity at the close."—Sir Andrew Davis
