Beethoven:   String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131
Schubert:   String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor, D. 810 (“Death and the Maiden”)

About The Artist

It is believed that Schubert requested to hear Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 14 on his deathbed, sharing the composer’s assertion that it was his finest work. In a remarkable synchronicity, Schubert’s own Quartet No. 14, containing several death themes, similarly became one of cornerstones of the string quartet repertory. Both works will glow in the hands of the Emerson String Quartet, which Newsday calls “the one indispensible quartet in the world.”
