About The Artist

Internationally recognized for its programs mixing contemporary classical music with the Western canon, A Far Cry returns to Ravinia, where in 2012 the ensemble shared the stage with ukulele phenom Jake Shimabukuro. Even with a diverse repertoire, “nothing comes across as gimmicky or contrived,” determined the Boston Music Intelligencer, “since their passion is genuine.” Though the 18-musician ensemble performs without a conductor, Austria’s Vorarlberger Nachrichten concluded that the members are “of one heart and one mind when it comes to music . . . demonstrating an astounding level of technical and musical homogeneity.” On a special concert with Yo-Yo Ma, A Far Cry recently inaugurated a new performance space at Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, where it has been in residence since 2009 and its “constant high caliber of musicianship is something listeners have grown accustomed to” (Boston Globe).
