Program Notes

Diva on Detour

Though building her career on the operatic stage, Patricia Racette is a veritable Broadway and jazz diva as well. At Ravinia’s 2012 Gala she performed a new medley of some of Édith Piaf’s best-known chansons, and will bring those classics to the Martin Theatre stage along with some of the America’s most recognizable songs from between the 1930s and ’50s. Gershwin, Arlen and Rodgers of course will be showcased, but so will be jazz standards from Vernon Duke, Murray Grand, Johnny Mandel and, naturally, Cole Porter.
