Chicago Symphony Orchestra
James Conlon, Conductor
The 5 Browns, Piano
Following a set of their trademark multiplepiano arrangements, The 5 Browns will perform the world premiere of a sensational work commissioned by Ravinia Festival for these Ravinia favorites and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. One of the hottest new composers of our time, Nico Muhly has demonstrated a dazzling versatility, working as editor, conductor and keyboardist for Philip Glass, collaborating on a DVD single with Björk, composing film scores (including The Reader) and currently working on an opera jointly commissioned by the English National Opera and New York’s Metropolitan Opera. Rounding out the program will be Shostakovich’s most popular symphony, the triumphant Fifth, which restored the composer to official favor after a period of censure from Soviet officials.
