About the Artist

Tony and Grammy Award-winning vocalist and actor Heather Headley returns after stunning with Sondheim songs last summer, lifting up a full evening of signatures—from Elton John Broadway hits to pop standards. In 1997, Headley created the role of Nala in the original cast of Elton John and Tim Rice’s hit Tony-winning musical The Lion King, and while still part of the cast, she was asked to audition for the title role in the next Broadway venture together, Aida. Portraying the Nubian princess won her sweeping critical praise, including both the Tony and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Headley’s success continued on the record charts, earning two Grammy nominations with her 2002 debut album This Is Who I Am, R&B and dance No. 1 honors with the title track of 2006’s In My Mind, and the Best R&B/Gospel Album Grammy for 2009’s Audience of One. After starring in The Bodyguard in London’s West End in 2012, she returned to Broadway in 2016 to star as Shug Avery in The Color Purple.
