About the Artist
From a history-making Grammy winner to a being who has grown to recognize love in the abstract and aspirational, esperanza spalding has been an iconoclastic practitioner of serving and embodying the various regenerative arts since her Ravinia debut a decade ago. Bass, piano, composition, performance, voice, and lyrics are tools and disciplines she is engaged in deeply to cultivate her own channel for transmitting care and beauty through vibration, sound, and presence. Having just completed writing an opera with Wayne Shorter, she is developing a mockumentary with the San Francisco Symphony, researching and developing liberation rituals in jazz and Black dance, and continuing to develop music with enhanced therapeutic potential.
