This program celebrates the power of collaboration between musicians, transcending style, genre, and time. Opening with Stravinsky’s ode to Pergolesian style and closing with Waxman’s devilishly difficult fantasy on themes from Bizet’s Carmen, the program also features Schubert’s profound Fantasy in C major, including a delightful set of variations on his lied Sei mir gegrüsst. These masterpieces are interspersed with Brahms’s Scherzo and Schumann’s Intermezzo from perhaps one of the greatest and most intriguing collaborations of all time, the F-A-E Sonata, written for the celebrated violinist Joseph Joachim by Schumann, Dietrich, and Brahms.
