Itzhak Perlman, Violin
|Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61|
|Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92|
The most famous violinist of our time, Itzhak Perlman has helped countless millions become music lovers, not only on the concert stage but also through contributions to film soundtracks, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of his first appearance both with the CSO and at Ravinia. But his auspicious career dates back even further to an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show—the very same that launched The Beatles and Elvis Presley—as a 13-year-old. It is fitting, then, that he should celebrate the milestone with Beethoven’s lone violin concerto, which was rescued in the mid-19th century from obscurity by a musician just one year older than the precocious Perlman, and has since stood as one of the most beloved works for the instrument.
Help Moraine Township Food Pantry
Combat Local Food Insecurity
Each Saturday this summer, volunteers from the Moraine Township Food Pantry will be stationed at the main entrance at Ravinia to collect donations for the 26 percent of residents in the Highland Park/Highwood area who suffer from “food insecurity.”
Below are food items of the most immediate need for the “dangerously low” supplies at the pantry. If you are coming to Ravinia for this show, please consider bringing an item or two from this list to help Moraine Township keep underserved children in the area fed this summer.
