Program Overview

The one-week Program for Jazz at Ravinia's Steans Music Institute is a unique summer program for young professional musicians that focuses upon composition and performance. Days are spent rehearsing in quintets, studying composition with our illustrious faculty, and learning how to perform with ever-changing personnel. All fellows write original music as a cornerstone of the program. With enrollment limited to 15 musicians, artists find an intimate, collegial atmosphere as they work with each other and meet with a distinguished international faculty for lessons and master classes. Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute fosters a supportive, non-competitive environment for study and performance, with participants from around the world creating a distinctive jazz community.
