2021 Policies and Protocols
Last updated: June 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
With expert guidance from Northwestern Medicine and local public health authorities, Ravinia has developed protocols that will be kept up-to-date to ensure we are following best practices for health and well-being. Your participation is expected to help us ensure the return of music under the stars.
The protocols and policies below reflect our current plans. Please continue to check this page as we approach opening night, and regularly throughout the season, for the most up-to-date protocols for attending a performance.
Ravinia will be closely following public health recommendations from the CDC and local authorities. Masks are recommended for unvaccinated patrons and staff, and for all people in high-traffic areas such as lines to board Metra trains and park and ride buses. All train and shuttle bus riders are required to wear masks while on board, by federal law.
Keep Your Distance
The capacity of Ravinia’s venues and buildings is reduced in accordance with Restore Illinois guidelines to allow physical distance between guests. Please respect your neighbors’ desire for a healthy Ravinia experience before, during, and after every event.
Performances & Seating
All performance seating areas are open-air spaces. With the health of artists and audiences in mind, all classical events will be 90 minutes long or less and presented without intermission. Seating configurations and capacity may be revised as local guidelines evolve.
Stay Home If You Are Sick
If you or a recent close contact are sick, experience CDC-recognized COVID-19 symptoms, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past 14 days, we ask that you prioritize community health and stay home. See the ticket policy page on Ravinia.org for your options.
Commonly touched surfaces, such as Pavilion seats, tables and counters, and door handles, are routinely cleaned and sanitized for the protection of everyone in the park.
Hand Washing & Sanitizer
Every restroom features touchless fixtures, including soap dispensers, for thoroughly washing your hands. Touch-free hand sanitizer dispensers are also available throughout Ravinia’s grounds and buildings.
Touchless Payment Accepted
All in-park restaurants and concessions, The Festival Shop, and Wintrust Chair & Table Rental accept contact-free payment methods. Order tickets in advance at Ravinia.org for touchless ticketing!
Your tickets for park admission will be delivered digitally for touchless entry at our gates. Please have your phone sufficiently charged and your tickets ready for scanning when you approach the gate.
Guests must attest to their health when purchasing tickets for park entry. Proof of vaccination or negative test is not required by local health policy. Early park entry for small groups is a benefit of supporting the not-for-profit Ravinia.
Food & Beverage Service
Reservations are highly recommended for dinner service in the Tree Top, Lawn Bar and Park View restaurants. BMO Rooftop and carts are open for drinks and snacks; please maintain a physical distance from other guests in line. Place pickup orders from Ravinia Market on your mobile device or bring your own picnic!
Reduced audience capacity will impact ticketing and some long-standing donor benefits this summer. Most donor benefits, including the early park entry pass, will be accessed digitally through your Ravinia account. More info on our Donor 2021 Experience page.
Ticket Sale Dates
Ticket sales for the 2021 season will be split into two halves. Tickets for concerts scheduled between July 1 and August 15 are available to donors on May 13 and go on sale to the general public on June 16. Tickets for concerts scheduled after August 15, are available to donors beginning June 18 and go on sale to the public on July 21, exclusively at Ravinia.org.
All performances will be in the Pavilion, broadcast to a video screen on the back of the Pavilion, or—new this year—featured in the Carousel rotunda on the North Lawn. Check each event’s webpage for which of these ticket options are available.
Reserved Pavilion Seating
Reserved tickets for the open-sided Pavilion come in physically distanced groups of 2 or 4 seats, with clear sight to the stage from every location. As local health guidelines evolve, seating configurations may be revised for increased capacity. The Pavilion opens 30 minutes before the event starts, but you can enjoy a picnic on the general admission Lawn or a meal in the Dining Pavilion before taking your seats.
Reserved Lawn Spaces
Reserved, socially distanced spaces on the Discover Premium South Lawn are available for groups of 2, 4, or 6 people. Most predetermined spaces in this limited-availability, individually marked section offer a view of the performance from a video screen on the back of the Pavilion, brought to you by RBC Wealth Management. Tickets may be checked for entry to this section. View location on map.
General Admission Lawn Tickets
The classic Ravinia experience! Pick your spot with family and friends on the expansive Lawn, with reduced capacity to allow for distancing between groups of guests, and hear the music live under the stars with the state-of-the-art speaker system. As local health guidelines evolve, capacity may increase while continuing to allow guest spacing. As a reminder, the stage is not visible from most Lawn sections. View locations on map.
New this season, in partnership with Metra, all trains on the Union Pacific North line will honor Ravinia tickets as train fares; patrons can show their concert e-ticket for a free train ride to and from the park on concert days.
This summer, only the downtown Highland Park park-and-ride lot will be utilized; buses will have reduced capacity to maintain passenger distancing and cycle as needed to and from the park on concert days.
Dining and Picnicking
As always, patrons will be able to bring picnics or choose from a variety of in-park dining options this summer. A mobile ordering system will enable concertgoers in the park to get food and drinks for contactless pickup. Each restaurant has a covered outdoor patio for open-air service, and reservations are strongly recommended as capacities may be reduced. For guests interested in catering, Ravinia will offer reserved group spaces in select areas of the park, with packages that include tickets and customized menus.
Pair your Ravinia concert with scintillating appetizers, contemporary dishes, and sumptuous drinks at one of the restaurants in the Dining Pavilion to savor a complete evening out. Reservations are strongly recommended, as seating capacities may be reduced, but tables may be open for walk-ins.
Each restaurant has an outdoor extension for open-air service, weather permitting. Ask the host about availability or request with your reservation.
Market Mobile Orders
From personal pizzas to tacos to burgers and sandwiches, order hot or chilled mains plus a range of sides, snacks, drinks, and sweets for pickup from the Ravinia Market to bring to your spot on the Lawn. The Market will not be offering walk-in service.
Grab a beverage at the BMO Rooftop overlooking the North Lawn. Patrons will be expected to maintain a physical distance from other guests in line. BMO Rooftop is available for private events and for walk-up guests on most full Pavilion performance nights.
