As Ravinia Festival’s summer concert season winds down, children throughout the region are returning to school. In these challenging economics times, more than ever, schools face difficult decision about where to cut their budgets….and music and art programs are typically the first to go. Through its Education and Community Partnerships programming, Ravinia Festival puts music back into schools that lack budgets for music education. We Are Asking For Your Help
We are writing to you today to ask for your support of these programs. We have been gifted a challenge grant by a local family foundation that has generously agreed to match every contribution to our Education and Community Partnerships Programs in a dollar for dollar match up to $25,000 from new and increased donors*. Ravinia’s Reach. Teach. Play. initiatives serve nearly 75,000 people in under-served neighborhoods and communities throughout the Chicago area through a myriad of programs. In 2010, we will:
- Provide music education to more than 5,000 students at Chicago Public Schools.
- Employ more than 35 teaching artists and work with over 120 teachers.
- Present live performances and performance opportunities to all of our partner schools.
- Distribute more than 3,000 free Ravinia lawn passes at Ravinia-sponsored live blues and jazz concerts at Douglas Park.
- Provide 150 residents in the Lawndale community with free year-round music lessons.
- Work with more than 100 social service agencies to provide an evening of joy and relaxation at Ravinia concerts to more than 6,500 people in challenging circumstances.
With the help from friends like you, we can continue to offer and expand these vital programs which brighten the lives of so many Chicago area residents.
