Sergio Fiorentino

The tracks featured here and elsewhere on this website are performed by SERGIO FIORENTINO
Those who are familiar with Sergio Fiorentino's playing consider him among the giants of the keyboard. Born in Naples in 1927, Fiorentino possessed an astonishing musicality and technique that places him among the highest order of musicians. The central decades of Fiorentino's life were spent as a highly respected teacher at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples - a modest lifestyle that was borne of his self-effacing temperament and the lingering effects of a back injury sustained in a plane crash early in his career. During this time he recorded copiously however, and his recordings--many of which are in the process of being reissued--are a testament to his greatness. He started concertizing more frequently again towards the end of his life, and at the time of his death in 1998 a revelatory rediscovery was underway. Fiorentino's pianism combines singing fluidity and musical instinct with an effortless technique. He was above all a musician's pianist.
