Saturday, July 2, will be Don Quixote Day at Ravinia! In the afternoon there will two in-depth seminars, one about Cervantes's literary Don Quixote, the other about Richard Strauss's musical Don Quixote. In the evening the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform Strauss's masterpiece, along with Don Quixote related works by Ravel, Ibert and Viktor Ullmann.
At 3:00pm Prof. Anne Cruz of the University of Miami will give a talk entitled "Don Quixote Turns 400: Cervantes's "Modern' Novel."
At 5:30pm Prof. Bryan Gilliam of Duke University will give a talk entitled "Don Quixote and the Cinematic Strauss."
Talks will take place in the Martin Theatre. There will be an hour between lectures to enjoy your own picnic on the grass.
